Hovis on 4
On Tuesday 18 March at 11.30am BBC Radio Four presented, “Hovis has left the Building”. The brainchild of Mark Radcliffe, this affectionate tribute will be a must for all Hovis fans.
In this tribute programme, with generous archive material featuring Hovis performing his work, Mark, a fellow Boltonian, looks back at the career and personality of a talented individual who took the rare step of rejecting fame and fortune when it came his way. The programme features interviews with fellow performers such as Johnny Vegas, John Cooper Clarke, John Hegley, Lucy Porter and Badly Drawn Boy, alongside many friends and admirers of Hovis and his legacy. Hovis wins slam
In February in deepest Devon, Hovis Presley saw off Allen Ginsberg, TS Elliot, WH Auden and Thomas Hardy in the Totnes Dead Poets Slam. Represented by Elvis McGonagall, national slam champ, Hovis fan, and Radio 4 favourite, a short selection of gems led the audience to vote overwhelmingly for Hovis. Elvis confessed that no-one in Totnes knew of Hovis before the slam “but they do now!”
